mischief managed

Yes, it is 3:45 AM and yes, I am blogging about Harry Potter. I just finished watching Deathly Hallows Part 2 an hour or so ago. What a magical experience. No really. I remember when I got the first three Harry Potter books for Christmas. I think I was 7 when I first started reading them. My mom had told me to ask the school librarian if we had a book called Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in the library. Her patient, who was also a librarian had told her about the series. I remember I had already read half the book on Christmas day. Now it's over. There were so many odd moments that I cried during that movie- not even the super sad, emotional parts. Besides the fact that the Deathly Hallows book/movie is such a wonderful love story and message of good triumphing over evil, I was really moved by the audience. True, I wanted to throw something at the girl who was sobbing so loudly for most of the movie, but it still made me smile. Everyone that was sitting around me probably grew up with Harry Potter. They probably stayed up late reading the books, went to all the midnight premieres and many of them were dressed up as their favorite characters. J.K. Rowling not only created a world of magic and wonder, but encouraged an entire generation to pick up a book and read. I'm so happy I was a part of Harry's journey and I can't wait to share the books and movies with my children. Thank you Ms. Rowling and everyone that made Harry Potter come to life for me and my generation :)

feelin lit feelin light 2 am summer night

Oh what a week it has been! My family left for the beach Sunday evening. We went to Fenwick Island, in Delaware for the first time. I really, really liked it. Almost as much as Bethany Beach. We celebrated the 4th of July and stayed until Wednesday night. I really do love the beach. There's nothing more perfect to me than sitting in a chair in the sand reading a really fantastic book, and jumping in the water when it gets too hot.
We didn't stay as long as we normally do because Thursday night was Kid Cudi at the Mann Center in Philadelphia. That venue is great. I went one other time for MGMT, and it was even more fun on the floor. Here's Alyanna, Erin and me waiting for the concert to start.

The concert was DOPE. No seriously, it was so much fun. Kid Cudi is an incredible performer. I've never attended a hip hop concert in my life, but I had the greatest time. I will admit I felt goofy at first because I'm not even a little bit hood. But you kind of forget that and just dance. I imagine the whole thing would have been even more entertaining high, but I can assure you the surrounding air was potent enough for anyone in attendance to get a little blazed.
You may be a little bit curious as to why I am blogging at 4:18 AM. Taylor and I made a bet that the first one of us to read the entire Harry Potter series before July 15 wins a dinner with the loser dressed up as a character of their choice. I fear public humiliation, so I have spent the past 2 weeks re-reading the series. For a while, I had pretty good lead, and then all of a sudden Taylor decided to catch up. So naturally I spent my last evening starting and completing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I only finished half an hour ago. I am curious as to why I am in tears for the last 200 pages, even though this has been the 5th or 6th time reading it.

Look how much they've grown! Isn't it unreal? I am dreading/anticipating the July 15 because I feel like I'm saying goodbye to a part of my childhood, and essentially, I am. I started reading the books when I was 9 or something, because I got the first three as as Christmas present. Over the years, they have become battered and the binding has literally fallen apart and I have to read the 4th and 7th in sections. Needless to say, the Harry Potter series is a work of genius. The books and the movies (despite my disappointment with 3, 5 and 6) are masterpieces that will forever have a place in my heart.

The other day I was watching the live stream of the London premiere with my mom and we were both getting teary-eyed. Me, because it's the end of my childhood and my mother, because she's a naturally emotional person and I guess feels a special bond to the movies. But perhaps I was most touched by Emma Watson's flawless choice of gown. Oscar de la Renta. Guess who else wore Oscar? Oh you know, J.K. ROWLING. They were perfect. But seriously. Look at Emma and LOOK at that dress. There is nothing wrong with the it or the wearer. Too perfect.

July 15, please come quickly. But not too quickly because I will be an emotional wreck.

she refused to be bored, chiefly because she wasn't boring

My brother is at Boy Scout camp, so it's only my sister, me and my parents at home. I dragged the whole family to Midnight in Paris last night. I think it was a sweet movie, but I'm not sure it was worth the $10 movie ticket. I thought the story was cute, and I love Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams. If anything, the scenery was so pretty. My dad (who hated the movie) thought the whole movie looked like a postcard. I did enjoy all of the costumes and the whole 'Paris in the 20's' premise. It was kind of slow and the whole thing was pretty goofy. I do really want to read all of Fitzgerald's work now, more than ever. Currently I am in the beginning of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and should be done re-reading the series by July 15 at midnight :)
I did fall in love with this dress and Marion Cotillard. I think she has such interesting features and such a sultry voice that combined make her so pretty. I kept whispering to my sister the whole time how cute I thought she was. And she was darling in the movie. Really. And I want to know the designers of the costumes. I really loved the flapper dresses and how sparkly and simple they were. There's nothing I would rather wear than an above the knee shift dress.

I kind of want to get tortoise shell glasses. I like the size of mine, but I kind of want different colored frames. But then I change my mind and decide I like black. It' like that with cutting my hair. For a few hours every couple of days, I am convinced that I will get layers in my hair and bangs. And then I change my mind. I've had the same haircut since middle school. I really do love my hair, I just wonder if it would look better if I added some variation. I'm going to the beach next week. I can't wait. And lately, I have been listening to Radiohead's OK Computer on repeat. Seriously one of my favorite albums. I still like The Bends a little better though...

for a minute there i lost myself

I anticipate a lot more frequent blog entries because of my lack of having anything to do in Lancaster.

Last week was spent at Deep Creek Lake, Maryland. It was beautiful and relaxing as always and I also celebrated Maren's 20th birthday. Happy birthday honey! It's weird that my best friend is 20. You know what else is weird? The fact that my student summary on the Route Y says "Junior." When did I become a junior in college? It baffles me.
Sometime last week I watched "No Strings Attached" starring the perfect Natalie Portman and not-at-all-as-perfect Ashton Kutcher. I'm not sure why, but I'm obsessed with this movie. I honestly think Natalie Portman's performance was perfect. She was so goofy and weird and I'm obsessed with her and kind of wanted to date her after I saw it for the first time. "Friends With Benefits" is supposed to come out soon and I feel like it is the exact same premise as this one. I love Mila Kunis and JT, but Natalie is my ultimate girl crush. It's my new go-to feel good film. I'm not sure what that says about me if my feel good film is about a relationship based solely on sex, but I'm ok with it. Judge me.

I won't lie, being home is kind of boring. I filled out some paperwork for J. Crew today but I won't be starting for another 2 weeks or so. I'm not sure how I plan on spending on my time. Oh wait, yes I do. My hard drive crashed a few weeks ago. I lost everything. It still hurts my heart to think about it. Mainly I am most concerned about all of the music I lost. I will be recovering those files. Also, I kept meticulous record of fashion shows and fashion weeks. Like I saved my favorite looks from all the fall/winter, spring/summer, resort, etc. shows and labeled them precisely and I lost all of that as well. I will probably be recovering that too and writing reviews as I reminisce on my favorite shows. It's gonna suck when I have to buy an external hard drive. Any purchase that's not clothes or books sucks to me.

Things to do this summer:
1) Visit Jadyn in Boston.
2) Visit Sean in D.C.
3) Re-read the entire Harry Potter series (I'm on book 3)
4) Recover my music/fashion files
5) Get fit again
6) Shadow a speech therapist
7) Find a car for school
8) Find a maxi skirt that does not dwarf me
9) See Bon Iver (this is happening in August!!!!)
10) Read all of F. Scott Fitzgerald's work
11) Read better books in general
12) Finish The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series (1 more)

There's more to this list I'm sure.

someway baby it's part of me apart from me

I haven't blogged in years. The above picture is the only pic I got of Iron & Wine. I saw them on the 3rd of June. It was great. I really love that band. We got there late, but nonetheless it was still fun. And I saw my anatomy teacher there, whom I worship. Shoutout to Rachel Tomco: you are the coolest. Guess what? The semester is almost over and I'm going home in 5 days!! But you know what? This semester wasn't even bad. I'm taking American Heritage, Mission Prep and LDS Marriage & Family. Such a breeze. Lol jk, Am Htg. SUCKS. True life I studied for 30 hours for the first test and did terrible. Whatever. I don't care. I should be studying now, but instead I'm blogging and packing. I'm excited to go home, but I haven't been counting down the days like normal. Weird huh? It's ok. I'm starting to see why people decide to stay in Provo. Wait what. Did I really just say that?
Ok everyone needs to get this album ASAP. Bon Iver's self-titled. It's so good. I'm seeing them in August. AH. But seriously. Brilliance.
