click click saddle up see you on the moon then

This past Wednesday, Maren and I took a roadtrip to visit our dear friend, Lindsay Crowder in Virginia. We met Lindsay at the very first EFY we ever attended in 2007. Along with Lindsay we met her best friend Jenna as well as Blythe and Kaile. We all learned that we lived within a couple hours of each other and have remained friends ever since. I am such an advocate of EFY because you really do make lifelong friends :)

So enough advertising for CES programs. Lindsay lives in cute Ashburn, VA. The first day we spent going to the reservoir (hip local hangout for Ashburn teens) and then shopping at Nordstrom Rack and H&M. Fun. I didn't spend any money that day. On Friday we decided to visit Georgetown and experience the legendary Georgetown Cupcake. Overall, the cupcakes were pretty good, but I feel like Gtown Cupcake is kind of like In-N-Out Burger. People talk it up so much and then you finally experience it and it's like, oh, ok. I mean, don't get me wrong- In-N-Out is fabulous and so is Gtown Cup, but how amazing can a cupcake/cheeseburger be? We came at a good time because the line was only 10 mins. long and we got a free cupcake since GC was going to be featured on TLC that night on DC Cupcakes (most ridiculous segment ever).
Georgetown has got to be one of my latest obsessions. It's the cutest little town ever and I have always loved DC. We planned on going to DC after Gtown, but were so mesmerized by the cute little shops and cupcakes, we were too tired. I would love to live in Georgetown, except I would probably have no money to eat, but I would look fabulous doing it! All the best stores were in Georgetown including the flawless Anthropologie and J. Crew. I'd like to know whose brilliant idea it was to place those two retailers right next to each other in EVERY city I go to. Seriously. Philly, SLC and now Georgetown. Ugh it was so painful. We also went to this crazy vintage store called Annie Creamcheese and apparently famous people did too, like Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham. Nbd. Annie Creamcheese was awesome because they had an entire designer vintage section and I've never really seen designer vintage in person. Vintage Chanel velvet jacket and sequined geometric Escada dress were some notable pieces. The city was gorgeous and despite the sweltering heat, I had such a fun time with Lindsay and Maren.

And, as promised, I will post all of the money I spent. I suck at this savings thing. All in all, I spent $50. I don't remember exact amounts but I'll attempt to break it down:
-$13 gas money
-$9 metro card
-$8 chipotle
-$5 cupcakes + milk
-$13 J. Crew (Ok, J. Crew COLLECTION sparkly tank. Originally $74, marked down to $25 and 50% with my employee discount. So worth it, plus I got to experience using my discount at retail. I have no regrets)
-$2 bus

That sounds about right. I'm proud of myself though because I left my cards at home AND I didn't buy the $5 scarves, blouses and $20 cardigans I could have at J. Crew. I show no remorse from my Gtown excursion.

passion

"It's always a bit discombobulating when people raise their voices in anger because they've gotten wind that designers are making and selling $25,000 dresses. After all, it's not as if the existence of a dress that costs as much as a car negates the availability of cute $25 frocks at Target. And it isn't as though edicts have been issued that all women must now dress like one of the superheroes on Balenciaga's runway.

For personal and sometimes tortured reasons-- I can't have it so no one else can!-- observers declare that they just don't understand the attraction of these strange and expensive clothes. That would be a fair argument if those same complainers lashed out at people who spend thousands of dollars on Redskins season tickets, vintage wines, first-edition books or midlife-crisis cars. But those industries don't stir nearly as much ire from people who are uninterested in them.

Everyone has a passion that is lost on others."

I love this.

espana!

After being denied repeated requests to attend 9 AM church in order to catch the World Cup final, I settled for the DVRed version of the game after dinner. So lame, I know. It was actually a really boring game, but I'm happy for Spain. I think it's crazy that they never made it to a final until now and then they went and won. Wahoo! I'm really sad that the World Cup is over. 4 years seems so far away. I asked my dad if I could go to Brazil in 2014 for a graduation present and he didn't say no!
You know who else I'm going to miss besides my boyfriend, Cristiano? JESUS NAVAS. He is the shorter one in this pic, not Torres. Seriously, most stunning eyes in South Africa today.

she gets naughty with her pilates body

Style crush: Olivia Palermo.
I was so bored after working yesterday that I watched all of season 2 of The City. I'm embarrassed.

She's a biatch in the show, but this girl is the real Blair Waldorf. 1) She's stunning- littlest body, legs for days, most beautiful features and can rock the center part. Dang. 2) Hot hot boyfriend- male model Johannes Huebl. Get it girl. 3) Most perfect wardrobe- Everything she wears, whether it's a little DVF party frock, to shorts and tights, Oscar gown or men's trousers with those goofy shoes, she works. And I am obsessed with her style. It's the perfect mix of majority preppy girly with a touch of bohemian and the tiniest sprinkle of rock 'n roll. But mostly preppy girly. Which I love and die for.

Things I have learned from The City:
1) If you were on an MTV reality show you have a better chance of showing at Bryant Park than actual students who studied at Parsons or FIT and can actually put a collection together.
2) Center parts are all the rage, but it helps if you have a flawless face like Olivia.
3) Olivia knows everyone and has a personal relationship with everyone. That may or may not grant her an interview for elle.com
4) Whitney Port has a very annoying voice.
5) And Olivia has a nice voice. And she is very classy even when she's being a biatch.

I think my dream job would be a fashion editor for Teen Vogue or Vogue. Seriously though. I have always wanted to go into broadcast journalism, but with the economy so bad and jobs being so hard to find, I just don't think I could do anything with it. But I think I would really, really love it. I like how fast-paced the fashion industry is and the bustle of big cities and I really do just adore clothes. Like, more than the average person. For example, I look at a $10,000 couture gown or $14,000 bag and think, well that seems pretty reasonable, I mean, it is Galliano/Hermes.

for someone half as smart you'd be a work of art

For the 4th of July I went to the beach with my family. It was super hot and annoyingly crowded, but I loved it. Laying out in the sun and swimming in the ocean all day never gets old. And I know a lot of people are real picky about their beaches, but I don't think I really am. I mean there are definitely some trashy places out there, but gimme some sand, sun and water and I'm ok. I have to have a beach house some day. One thing I realized though, is that fireworks are really boring. I mean, after 5 minutes I'm kind of ready for them to be over. Maybe it was because I was tired and with my family all day, but this year I almost fell asleep during fireworks.
I promised I would post if I spent money and unfortunately, I did. On Monday I went to the Mt. Gretna Lake with Maren. I spent $12 on admission and $5 on a Subway footlong for lunch. I still don't feel like that is too bad though, and I've been leaving my cards at home whenever I go places and trying to only use cash if I do spend money. So far I have been going on 10 days of not spending money, kind of. I think when I decided to not spend money, I meant frivolous items, like pretty clothes, accessories and food. I guess a day at the lake is kind of frivolous, but less frivolous than a cardigan. Whatever. I'm so saying I've gone 10 days without spending $$.

Job outlook is still sucking, and I've pretty much accepted that no business wants to hire an employee that's going to leave in 2 months. Speaking of which... 2 months?? Where did summer go?! As mediocre and boring as my life is in Lancaster, not one part of me wants to go back to school. I'm just not ready.

oh i wish i was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair

This past Tuesday my sister, her two friends and I decided to tie-dye. I made a tie-dye shirt at school, but I used an old white t-shirt that had writing on it, so I was excited to make plain v-necks. We bought a pack of Hanes white v-necks and I found an old white v-neck in my closet and TA-DA! Tie-dye beauty. We just opened them up an hour ago and now we're letting them dry. I'm very pleased with how they turned out and seeing them just makes me want to tie-dye more. Alyanna dyed a beater and shorts which look really cool. Next on my agenda- leggings and a cover-up!

And I am proud to say that I am going on my 4th day of not spending money. I know what you're thinking. Um, tie-dye isn't free. But Alyanna actually owed me money so she just paid for my share of the supplies. So there. Yesterday I applied to 2 more places so I currently have applications at 8 different business in Lancaster. Someone. Please. Hire. Me. Now.

I hope everyone enjoys their 4th of July. Hurray for America. And on a sadder note, all my teams are out of the World Cup. I was hoping for Ghana to take it all, but alas. So. May the best team win, I guess.
